PARENTS, FAMILIES AND FRIENDS ALLIED WITH THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY

Adell at the White House Conference on the Family:
At the march, parents from PFLAG-type groups had a chance to meet and talk about the formation of a national "federation." During the years 1980 and 1981 these groups network and laid the necessary ground work. At the same time, Adele Starr continued her advocacy work. She helped to organize a California March on Sacramento for Gay and Lesbian Rights. Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley nominated her to serve on the what he referred to as the advisory board for the White House Conference on Youth. His nomination letter and her conference badge appear here. Imagine the courage it took to walk proudly among the delegates—the only person identified as a parent and supporter of an LGBTQ child.

  Ask yourself...

Would I have had the courage to take this step?

What can I do now to move equality forward?
