time sensitive, take action now!

Contact your two U.S. Senators and one U.S. Representative now. Call only between 9am–5pm ET. Phone lines are not answered outside of those hours.

Even if your elected officials agree with your feelings, it is important to let them know that their constituents do care and are concerned.

Visit PFLAG National's website:
Find Your Elected Officials Contact Info

For each call, give them your full name and address, including zip code (important, so they register you as a constituent). You will be speaking to a staff person who will tally your call. Be polite at all times!

Either share a simple message:

“Hello, my name is (your name)  I live in your district at (your address), (your zip code). I urge you to protect my family’s affordable healthcare by defeating the American Health Care Act.”

Or share a fuller message:

“Hello, my name is (your name)  I live in your district at (your address), (your zip code). I urge you to protect my family’s affordable healthcare by defeating the American Health Care Act and by keeping and strengthening the Affordable Care Act. It protects me and my family with no discrimination against people, including LGBTQ people, regardless of pre-existing conditions, HIV status, annual and lifetime coverage needs, and lets children under 26 stay on parents’ policies.”

If you happen to know that the elected official already
supports healthcare protection, it’s nice to thank them by adding:

“Thank you for supporting affordable health care for my family.”

Campaign promises to replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA) with something “much better” couldn’t be further from the truth. The changes to the ACA that were just revealed by Republican leaders of Congress will have devastating consequences for LGBT people and many others.

Your help is needed now to protect healthcare for the most vulnerable in our community.

Before Congress approved the ACA, LGBT people—who are disproportionately impacted by HIV/AIDS, heart disease, and cancer—were more likely to be uninsured. Today, because the uninsured rate is an all-time low, LGBT people are much more likely to have the care they desperately need.

The proposed changes to the ACA will make it much more difficult or impossible for low-income people to afford health insurance, with life-threatening results.

Especially alarming is the fact that the new scheme eliminates mental health and substance abuse treatment. That’s not only harmful to individuals directly impacted, but to the safety and wellness of our entire society.

Women and seniors are particularly threatened. Pregnancy, maternity, and newborn care will no longer be covered. Planned Parenthood, which provides life-saving health care every day for women, will be defunded. And seniors will be charged up to five times as much for the same coverage as someone who is younger.
