Speaker’s Bureau

What is a panel like?

The PFLAG Los Angeles Speaker’s Bureau provides speakers free of charge to middle schools, high schools, colleges, and businesses in and around the Los Angeles area. The engagements usually last one hour, and panels may include different identities and experiences like the parent of an LGBTQ+ child, a gay man, a lesbian, and a nonbinary person. At the start of the panel, each speaker makes a 3-5 minute introductory statement tailored to the audience in which they discuss their background, coming-out story, involvement with the community and/or involvement with PFLAG. The remainder of the engagement is devoted to a question-and-answer session. Audience members are encouraged to ask questions of the presenters. However, we do NOT answer sexually explicit questions or discuss sexually explicit topics.

How do I request a panel?

To arrange a panel of speakers, please contact us a minimum of three weeks before the engagement date. In our contact form, we will ask you to include information like your name, contact information, school or business name and address, date, time, number of classes (if applicable), duration of engagement, and information on the class/audience we will be addressing. Please give us one week to reply to your request.

Can I be a speaker?

We love expanding on our available speakers list. Participating in the PFLAG Los Angeles Speaker’s Bureau is a great way to give back. Panelists can speak to various groups like students, parents, businesses, and community organizations to educate the public about LGBTQ people in all our diversity. You will need to be an active member to be eligible and continue to be involved. Training is provided and we ask for a commitment of at least two years.
