Executive Committee

    • Responsibilities: Support the President in organizational leadership, step in when President is unavailable, oversee strategic planning initiatives, and maintain relationships with key stakeholders. Lead special projects and assist in board development.

    • Qualifications: Experience in nonprofit leadership, strategic planning, and organizational development. Strong communication and relationship-building skills. Previous board experience preferred.

    • Responsibilities: Maintain official records including meeting minutes, board documentation, and organizational policies. Ensure compliance with bylaws, manage board communications, and oversee record-keeping systems. Support board meeting logistics and documentation.

    • Qualifications: Strong organizational and documentation skills. Experience with record keeping, meeting management, and nonprofit governance. Detail-oriented with excellent written communication abilities.

    • Responsibilities: Provide legal guidance on governance, compliance, and risk management. Review organizational policies, contracts, and bylaws. Ensure adherence to nonprofit regulations and advise on legal implications of organizational decisions.

    • Qualifications: Licensed attorney with nonprofit or corporate law experience. Understanding of nonprofit governance and regulations. Strong analytical and communication skills.

Membership Development Committee

    • Responsibilities: Lead membership strategy to grow and retain PFLAG LA's member base. Set goals for recruitment, engagement, and legacy relations. Oversee membership operations and data management. Guide communications and engagement initiatives. Direct member feedback collection and program improvements.

    • Qualifications: Experience in membership development, community building, or similar roles. Strong strategic planning and leadership abilities. Deep understanding of LGBTQ+ communities and member engagement best practices.

    • Responsibilities: Manage day-to-day membership operations including benefits, records, and PFLAG National reporting. Create recruitment materials and member communications. Maintain database accuracy. Support legacy engagement by reconnecting with former members. Track membership metrics and assist Chair with strategy implementation.

    • Qualifications: Experience in membership management, database administration, or customer relations. Strong organizational and communication skills. Familiarity with LGBTQ+ community and nonprofit operations.

    • Responsibilities: Plan and execute member engagement initiatives including events, networking, and mentorship programs. Facilitate new member onboarding. Gather member feedback. Support community-building efforts aligned with PFLAG LA's mission. Collaborate with Membership Manager on retention strategies.

    • Qualifications: Experience in community engagement, program development, or event planning. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

Advocacy Committee

  • We may seek two co-chairs for this committee.

    • Responsibilities: Lead policy and legislative advocacy initiatives at local and state levels. Track and respond to emerging LGBTQ+ policy issues. Build coalitions with partner organizations. Develop advocacy strategies and campaigns. Mobilize community response to legislative matters. Guide organizational positions on policy issues.

    • Qualifications: Experience in LGBTQ+ advocacy, public policy, or government relations. Knowledge of legislative processes and policy landscape. Strong coalition-building and strategic planning skills. Understanding of intersectional advocacy approaches.

    • Responsibilities: Review and enhance organizational policies and practices through an inclusive, intersectional lens. Develop and implement DEI strategies and metrics. Guide programming and outreach efforts that reflect community diversity. Provide DEI training and resources. Ensure accessibility of services, programs, and communications. Monitor DEI progress and impact to ensure alignment with organizational goals.

    • Qualifications: Experience in DEI work, particularly in LGBTQ+ contexts. Strong understanding of intersecting identities (e.g., race, gender, disability, class) and their influence on experiences. Knowledge of inclusive practices and accessibility requirements. Background in organizational change and policy development. Strong communication and collaboration skills.

    • Responsibilities: Develop and execute strategic partnerships with LGBTQ+ organizations, community groups, schools, healthcare providers, and corporate allies. Lead partnership strategy to advance PFLAG LA's mission across education, advocacy, and support. Build and maintain key relationships. Create partnership frameworks and evaluation metrics. Track and report on partnership outcomes and community impact. Identify and cultivate potential partners. Work with Fundraising Chair and Donor Manager on financial aspects of corporate partnerships.

    • Qualifications: Experience in partnership development, ideally within LGBTQ+ or social justice organizations. Proven success securing substantial partnerships. Deep understanding of LGBTQ+ issues and intersectionality. Strong leadership and relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders. Knowledge of LA's LGBTQ+ community landscape.

Community Outreach & Engagement Committee

  • We may seek two co-chairs for this committee.

    • Responsibilities: Lead policy and legislative advocacy initiatives at local and state levels. Track and respond to emerging LGBTQ+ policy issues. Build coalitions with partner organizations. Provide ongoing coaching and development.

    • Qualifications: Experience in public speaking, training/coaching, and event coordination. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training programs. Understanding of LGBTQ+ issues and effective storytelling techniques.

    • Responsibilities: Develop communications strategy, manage public relations, oversee crisis communications and sensitive issues, maintain brand voice and messaging consistency across channels. Lead strategic communications planning.

    • Qualifications: Experience in communications, PR, or related field. Strong crisis management skills. Understanding of LGBTQ+ issues and sensitive communications.

    • Responsibilities: Develop and lead volunteer programs, including recruitment, training, and retention strategies. Assess organizational needs, match volunteers to roles, and implement management systems. Track engagement metrics and develop recognition programs. Coordinate with board chairs to support their volunteer needs.

    • Qualifications: Experience in volunteer program management or similar role. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of nonprofit volunteer programs and volunteer management systems preferred.

Finance Committee

  • May double as Treasurer.

    • Responsibilities: Support the Treasurer in budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance tasks. Lead financial projects such as grant tracking, restricted funds management, or cost-reduction strategies. Recommend improvements to financial policies and procedures. Provide financial insights to support fundraising and organizational goals.

    • Qualifications: Experience in finance, accounting, or financial analysis, preferably at a nonprofit. Possesses strong problem-solving, project management, and collaborative skills. Detail-oriented with a focus on operational efficiency.

  • May double as Finance Chair. Includes training.

    • Responsibilities: Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, audits, and compliance with legal and nonprofit regulations. Provide financial reports to the board, maintain oversight of financial health, and advise on financial strategy. Collaborate with fundraising efforts to align financial goals and budgets.

    • Qualifications: Experience in finance, accounting, and/or financial management, preferably at a nonprofit. Possesses strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Knowledge of nonprofit financial regulations and compliance requirements.

    • Responsibilities: Oversee donor program and donor relations, including communications, stewardship, and reporting. Manage corporate donor relationships and maintain donor database.

    • Qualifications: Experience in donor relations, database management, and communications. Strong relationship-building and organizational skills.

    • Responsibilities: Track the organization's financial health, assist with budgetary planning, support long-term financial strategies, audits, and reporting. Assist treasurer with day-to-day tasks as needed.

    • Qualifications: Experience in finance, accounting, and/or financial management. Strong analytical and organizational skills.

    • Responsibilities: Write and submit grant proposals to secure funding. Research grant opportunities, maintain grant calendar, and track reporting requirements.speaking engagement outcomes and impact. Provide ongoing coaching and development.

    • Qualifications: Experience in grant writing, particularly for nonprofits. Strong writing and research skills with attention to detail.

Operations Committee

  • Includes training.

    • Responsibilities: Manage and update our website, implement content updates, optimize for search engines (SEO), ensure site functionality and track analytics.

    • Qualifications: Experience with content management systems (particularly Squarespace), understanding of SEO principles, basic web administration skills.

  • Includes training.

    • Responsibilities: Manage incoming inquiries via email and phone, provide resource referrals, direct inquiries internally as needed, maintain documentation of communications.

    • Qualifications: Strong communication and empathy skills. Understanding of LGBTQ+ community needs and local resources. Ability to assess and appropriately direct inquiries.

Programs Committee

    • Responsibilities: Set strategic direction for programs, oversee budget and resource allocation, develop new program initiatives, evaluate program effectiveness and impact, manage program staff and key partnerships.

    • Qualifications: Experience in program management, strategic planning, and team leadership. Strong organizational and decision-making skills.

    • Responsibilities: Coordinate program logistics, support facilitators, monitor program delivery, maintain program materials and documentation, collect participant feedback.

    • Qualifications: Experience in program coordination and event management. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Includes training.

    • Responsibilities: Design and implement data collection systems, analyze program metrics and outcomes, create impact reports, identify trends to guide strategic decisions, and recommend improvements based on findings.

    • Qualifications: Experience in data analysis, program evaluation, and impact measurement. Strong analytical and reporting skills.

    • Responsibilities:
      Oversee the Gender Focus Support Group by training and mentoring co-facilitators, ensuring session coverage, and supporting new co-facilitators during their onboarding period. Facilitate discussions centered on gender-related topics, including gender identity, gender expression, and the unique experiences of transgender and gender-expansive individuals and their families. Redirect conversations as needed to maintain the group’s focus while providing support and resources for broader LGBTQ+ issues that may arise. Track attendance numbers, identify emerging topics and resource needs, and collaborate with the Program Chair, Program Manager, and Volunteer Manager to align the group’s goals with organizational priorities. Maintain open communication with group facilitators to address concerns and foster an affirming environment for participants.

    • Qualifications:
      Experience facilitating support groups or leading discussions about gender identity and expression, ideally in a nonprofit or LGBTQ+ context. Strong mentoring and organizational skills. Familiarity with the unique challenges faced by transgender and gender-expansive individuals and their families, as well as knowledge of broader LGBTQ+ communities and issues. Ability to navigate sensitive topics, provide resources, and create inclusive, affirming spaces for participants.

  • Includes training.

    • Responsibilities:
      Oversee the General Support Group by training and mentoring co-facilitators, ensuring session coverage, and providing guidance on group facilitation. Shadow new co-facilitators during their onboarding period to ensure consistency and quality. Facilitate discussions on a broad range of topics relevant to LGBTQ+ individuals, their families, and family dynamics, including but not limited to issues of sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. Track and report attendance numbers, identify emerging topics and resource needs, and collaborate with the Program Chair, Program Manager, and Volunteer Manager. Maintain open communication with group facilitators to address concerns and ensure a welcoming, affirming environment for participants of diverse identities and experiences.ensure a welcoming, affirming environment.

    • Qualifications:
      Experience facilitating support groups or leading group discussions, ideally in a nonprofit or LGBTQ+ context. Strong organizational and mentoring skills. Familiarity with the unique challenges and experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals, their families, and especially transgender and gender-expansive individuals preferred. Ability to navigate sensitive topics and create inclusive, affirming spaces for participants. Bilingual skills are a plus but not required.

  • All three support groups currently meet virtually through Zoom; however, this may change in 2025 to include or switch to in-person meetings.

    • Responsibilities: Help create welcoming, safer spaces in our monthly support group meetings. Facilitate discussions on a wide range of topics, including LGBTQ+ identities, family dynamics, gender identity, and gender expression. Encourage balanced participation and redirect off-topic conversations when needed. Learn topics and resources relevant to the specific group(s) assigned. Commit to co-facilitating at least 4 sessions per year.

    • Qualifications: Strong listening and facilitation skills. Comfort discussing LGBTQ+ topics, including transgender and gender-expansive experiences, preferred. Willingness to learn more about the unique needs and dynamics of the group(s) assigned. Training provided; no prior facilitation experience necessary.

    • Time Commitment: Up to 2 hours per session (especially if in-person, with setup and clean-up).

  • There are virtual and in-person opportunities, though we get more requests for in-person. Reliable transportation is required for in-person, though you may be able to carpool with others, depending.

    We work to assemble panels that are as diverse and reflective of LGBTQ+ communities whenever possible. Allies are welcome (especially parents/guardians/caregivers), though you will be encouraged to speak from your own experiences.

    • Responsibilities: Share personal stories and experiences to educate and inspire diverse audiences about LGBTQ+ experiences and PFLAG's mission. Commit to 4 speaking engagements per year.

    • Qualifications: Comfort with public speaking and storytelling (training provided). Strong interpersonal skills.

    • Time Commitment: 1-hour sessions (usually, though sometimes more same-day sessions are requested), with a priority need for weekday in-person speakers at schools, organizations, and businesses throughout Los Angeles.

  • Create inclusive, welcoming spaces for all participants.

Speaker’s Bureau Members

All speakers are expected to:

  • Participate in at least 4 speaking engagements per year.

  • Maintain current PFLAG LA membership.

  • Complete storytelling and presentation training + refreshers.

  • Share personal experiences appropriately for diverse audiences.

  • LGBTQ+ Community Experience, Allyship, and Intersectionality: Strong personal, professional, or lived experience with LGBTQ+ communities, either as a member or through committed allyship, with a deep understanding of intersectionality and how various identities (e.g., race, gender, socioeconomic status) intersect with LGBTQ+ experiences.

  • Collaborative Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement: Proven ability to work effectively with board members, volunteers, and external partners to achieve organizational goals. Demonstrates strong communication skills to engage, inspire, and maintain relationships with diverse perspectives and experiences.
